This is a film I directed/edited. It was my first directing experience at Sheridan and so I wanted to make it challenging and special. The shots inside the bedroom with the TV in the mirror is all simultaneous (two scenes being shot at once). It was difficult to shoot but we pulled it together and made it happen. I can provide more info on how it was exactly done if you want to know! Enjoy!
From The FILMMAKER (Adi Targownik): a short film about a young girl in the Holocaust who brings up an imaginary friend to aid her in the struggle of maturing faster, while trying to stay positive in the most horrendous environment. I came up with the concept around the Holocaust Remembrance Day in Israel, and it is based on a true story of my grandmother Hayah. A word which means "alive" in Hebrew. I wanted to go for a different style and look for the film, which made me choose a cell-shade technique mixed with occlusion passes. The grotesque visuals help the atmosphere I wanted to create. I composed it all, and edited the sound recorded in Yiddish by my mother and grandmother. I'm proud to say the movie was screened in the Jerusalem Film Festival and the Lighthouse International Film Festival in New-Jersey, and hopefully more festivals in the future.
